M1 Beats M3
Germany’s Sport Auto is well known for giving an honest assessment of road cars at the track. Namely they’ve famous for their Hockenheim and Nurburgring show-downs. So it’s worth a quick note on BimmerFile about their latest test. The magazine finally got their hands on the 1M and immediately made their way to that other famous F1 track Hockenheim. Let’s get to the numbers. The 1M did the F1 track in 1:14.1. Ok you say, but how does that compare to the supposedly faster M cars? Here’s a quick list (after the break)…BMW E46 M3 CSL —————————————— 1:13.5 min BMW 1M —— ————————————– 1:14.1 min BMW M3 V8 E92 ————————————– 1:14.3 min (R compound tires) Audi TT-RS Coupe...

Hamann BMW 135i
The M-tuned version of the 1 Series is coming; that’s been confirmed. But for those who don’t feel like waiting, building their own is a matter of enrolling in Tuning 101. When it was first introduced, many saw the 1 Series as the 2002 reincarnate or, more optimistically, as a successor to the E30 M3. Relatively light and with a shorter wheelbase, visions of a more flickable, tossable (and slightly more affordable) sport coupe had enthusiasts salivating at the prospects. Aftermarket tuners have been quick to jump on the 1 Series, particularly the 135i with its twin-turbo N54 engine.German tuner Hamann has been re-configuring BMWs since 1985. The company’s first offering was a turbocharged E30 M3. Since then, Hamann has been known to offer styling kits that suited the...

BMW 2012 M
BMW presented the new version of M1, 2012 BMW M1. The base design of 2012 BMW M1 is BMW Vision EfficientDynamics. I don’t know why but all M1 fans, didn’t really loved the idea to name this BMW model, a M1. The truth is that I really feel is not so good to be named M1 but I don’t know why yet. They are about to make this car in 2012. If it will go into production, this would mean that the future cars are here. This car will use electric engines and two transmissions to acheive 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. The back of the car is not really like at BMW Vision EfficientDynamics but this would probably help to put this car into a production line. The main rival will be Audi R8 and 2012 BMW M1 will try to have much better performances. 2012 BMW M1 will have under the hood a 1.5 liter 3...

2011 BMW M5
BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has previously revealed that future BMW powertrains will be downsized in an effort to improve fuel-efficiency and reduce emissions–and that even the hallowed ‘M’ division would be affected by the new wave of environmental consciousness sweeping the automaker. BMW has always stood by the high-rev philosophy for delivering power from its M engines but all that is changing. We’ve already seen the potential of a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine in the X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs, and according to a new report the same force-fed engine is destined for the 2011 BMW M5–albeit, an uprated version of it. In the X5 M and X6 M the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 M engine delivers 555-horsepower and 500-pound-feet of torque–enough to send the big SUVs...

2012 M3 NEW!
Could this be the next design for the best seller in the BMW family, the 3 series? The current E90 BMW 3-series has only been on the market since 2005 but details about the next-gen model are already circulating with most agreeing that the next model will feature styling lifted from the Concept CS. Due in 2012, the next BMW 3-series will be the first of a family of BMW cars with a more recognizable face derived from the original styling of the Shanghai concept. With the new 3-series, designers will attempt to address criticisms of the current car’s awkward styling and lack of interior space. These renderings, compiled using information from sources close to the project show that the new car will have a pronounced kidney-grille with the air-intakes positioned on either side of the...

GTS M3 Competition
Well that was fast. As well it should be. Because what you’re looking at is the most hardcore roadgoing M3 to date. It’s called the GTS – not, as had been previously speculated, the CSL, GT or GT4 Street – and after seeing a few spy shots and some speculated details, BMW has just released its first official information on the most extreme machine in its stable. The eye-catching orange paintjob is a throwback to extreme Bimmers of yore. But after you look past the timely Halloween color scheme, you’ll notice a set of exclusive 19-inch competition alloys – coated with 225/35 rubber up front and 285/30 in the rear – protruding out of the bulging bodywork, housing six-piston calipers up front and...

2012 M3 Coming with less cylinders
The German automaker BMW is preparing the next generation M3 and a brand new M coupe patterned after the second-generation 1 series to bring to the market in the 2014 model year. The next 3 and 1 series models will be introduced in the latter part of 2012 as a 2013 model. BMW, in its aim to lower displacement and reduction in overall vehicle weight to preserve performance, will return the M3 back to a 6-cylinder unit. The company is still deciding however if it’s going to be an inline-six or a V6. The latter would offer better balance and more packaging adaptability; however, an inline-six would be more lightweight, an essential element in the future designs of BMW.BMW is not saying at this point if the new six-cylinder M powerplant, which is not patterned on the present 3.0-liter...
